Hamas: Fully Ready For Cease Fire; But is Israel?

Hamas told  Egypt on Thursday evening that it will agree to a year-long renewable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The  ceasefire envisioned by Hamas is conditional upon Israel withdrawing of all troops from Gaza in 5-7 days, diplomatic sources told Reuters.

Egypt has been in discussions with both Hamas and Israel on the matter of the cease fire.  France, Britain the United Nations and other member nations are also involved.

Israel sent a diplomat to the U.S. on the issue of the cease fire today.  Israel wants to create a cease fire that does not permit the re-arming of Hamas inside Gaza.

Hamas wants open borders for Gaza.

Thursday was an extremely tough day for Hamas in Gaza, where three top Hamas leaders died at the hands of Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF).

The top members of Israel’s “War Cabinet” are meeting Thurday night. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni were gathering.  They will reportedly discuss the progress of the war effort and the cease fire proposal.

Olmert has resisted the cease fire proposals thus far.  Barak wanted a 10 day humanitarian cease fire.
