Some are household names. Others you may have never heard of. They’re all part of a rogues gallery of sports figures infamous for feats not performed on track, field, rink or hardwood court.
These former professional stars once enjoyed big-league glitz and glamour, complete with multimillion-dollar contracts and endorsement deals, but they’ve since largely been relegated to punch lines, legal proceedings and unintended second careers.
Ten slots are hardly enough to cover the entire sports world, but we could go on forever if we included every athlete who made a wrong move to cut short his or her time at the top of the world. For every beloved star like Lou Gehrig or Michael Jordan, there’s a controversial figure….
