Drunk, Naked and Care-Free: Vacation of the Superstar

January 11, 2009

“She walks around in the same grimy bikini bottoms each day with her boobs on show, gets drunk, gropes waiters and is rude to male staff. She’s hardly the most popular guest.”

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Everyone wants Amy to disappear. Her attack on this guest was the last straw.”

Amy Winehouse stunned holidaymakers in St. Lucia after throwing a glass of water over a fellow diner.

The 25-year-old singer – who is enjoying a relaxing vacation in a luxury resort on the Caribbean island – is said to have doused a female tourist in water while she was having dinner with her partner.

Following the incident, Amy refused to apologise to the 27-year-old woman but later changed her mind when the couple threatened to call the police and press assault charges.

Singer Amy Winehouse, seen here in July 2008, has decided not ...

Explaining the reasons behind Amy’s actions, her spokesperson said: “Amy misunderstood a conversation and wrongly believed a slight was made. The matter has been resolved.”

The confrontation is the latest in a series of events which have angered staff at the resort.

From BANG:

The ‘Back to Black’ singer says she’s quit drugs for good and gained a new lease of life from holidaying in the Caribbean and meeting new man Josh Bowman.

Amy, who has been at an exclusive resort in St Lucia since New Year, told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “When I’m with Josh I don’t need drugs to feel good because he makes me feel so amazing.

“Before I came out here I looked at a photo of myself in the newspaper and was horrified. My skin was a spotty mess and I was so pale and skinny. I thought to myself ‘Girl, you got to sort yourself out or you’ll be dead soon’.

“I was depressed, doing drugs and had no life at all. Coming here has changed everything. I don’t want the holiday to end. Home is hell for me, I’ve escaped from it.”

Amy – who is married to jailed Blake Fielder-Civil – met 21-year-old actor Josh Bowman while on the island and the pair quickly struck up a romance.

The 25-year-old singer added: “Josh couldn’t be more different from my husband, which is not a bad thing. Blake looks like me, a right mess, but Josh is handsome and clean and that’s what I like about him.

“Blake was rubbish in bed. Almost every time I slept with him it was like I was dead. I don’t know what’s going on with us now and for the time being I’ve just forgotten I’m even married.”

Blake has reportedly started divorce proceedings against Amy from prison – where he is being held for attempting to pervert the course of justice and Grievous Bodily Harm – hiring celebrity lawyer Henri Brandman and demanding up to £5 million of Amy’s fortune.

Speaking of Amy, he is said to have told his mother in a phone call: “We’ve reached the point of no return.”

Bush Excluded by Latin Summit as China, Russia Loom

December 15, 2008

Latin American and Caribbean leaders gathering in Brazil tomorrow will mark a historic occasion: a region-wide summit that excludes the United States.

Almost two centuries after President James Monroe declared Latin America a U.S. sphere of influence, the region is breaking away. From socialist-leaning Venezuela to market-friendly Brazil, governments are expanding military, economic and diplomatic ties with potential U.S. adversaries such as China, Russia and Iran.

“Monroe certainly would be rolling over in his grave,” says Julia Sweig, director of the Latin America program at the Council of Foreign Relations in Washington and author of the 2006 book “Friendly Fire: Losing Friends and Making Enemies in the Anti-American Century.”

The U.S., she says, “is no longer the exclusive go-to power in the region, especially in South America, where U.S. economic ties are much less important.”

Since November, Russian warships have engaged in joint naval exercises with Venezuela, the first in the Caribbean since the Cold War; Chinese President Hu Jintao signed a free-trade agreement with Peru; and Brazil invited Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for a state visit.

“While the U.S. remains aloof from a region it no longer sees as relevant to its strategic interests, other countries are making unprecedented….
