Obama’s AIG Outrage: All Talk, No Action

March 17, 2009

In the middle of decrying the misdeeds of the financial firm AIG, President Obama cracked a joke. “Excuse me,” he said Monday, after coughing into the microphone. “I am choked up with anger here.” There were laughs all around the gilded East Room of the White House, because he didn’t sound angry at all.

The laughter, of course, did not fit the occasion, the latest in a seemingly endless stream of public events at which Washington’s political leaders work themselves into high dudgeon over the sins of financial wizards who, we are told over and over again, have messed up the world for everyone else. But then, you can only act outraged about the same thing so many times before it all starts to sound stale. These spectacles, the public rhetorical floggings, have become teleplays, as predictable as a daytime soap opera, as comforting as a wet rock.

China: Porn King Almost Got The Best Of Barack Obama

January 7, 2009

Ah, yes, everyone recalls the Super Bowl winner but many forget that other great team that got there and lost.

So we asked intrepid young Lucy Che to figure out for us all the Number 2 candidates, the “runners up,” to Barack Obama in the annual nation to nation polling for “man of the Year.”

The Time magazine naming Barack Obama as Person of the Year ...

Lucy told us that Barack Obama is secure in his spot in most nations as the peoples’ choice for “Man of the Year.”  But in China his competition was, let us say, “stiff.”

The second most popular Man of the Year for 2008 in China was apparently Edison Chen.

Edison Chen cares little for global warming, the economy or human rights.

He is a porn star.

In fact, he is such a porn star that “Edison Chen” and “Chen” became the most web searched names in China last year.

Edison Chen became a “sensation” in China when several porn videos and stills of him cavorting with pretty Chinese starlets appeared on the Internet.

Message to Barack:  Don’t get cocky!  Michelle will brain you.

And Edison is talented.  He speaks several languages.  But if you ask any young Chinese woman, they can only think of one language they’d like to try with Edison.

Edison: phone home.

The tidal wave of interest in Chen and his sexual ability became so great that China pulled the plug and told Google, Baindu and other search engines they had to remove the porn or else.

The search engines backed down and even Google groveled before the Chinese government to regain their search rights.

Obama was clearly the winner for “Man of the Year.”  But Edison Chen wound up on top a lot of the time….

As for those interested in seeing Edison in action: you are on your own!

For Obama, Media Can’t Wait, Can’t Criticize

December 17, 2008

Even before he was President of the United States and sitting behind the historic desk in the Oval Office: the media could not wait for Barack Obama to become President —  declaring him an historic man of greatness.

Time Magazine made Barack Obama its “Person of the Year” because he won the election over a very lame John McCain-Sarah Palin team.  And the Obama- Biden election had the help and support of a fawning and completely biased media: the same crowd of groupies now telling us about Obama’s “greatness.”

It’s time to get real, gang.   Obama is no Lincoln, and any man so proudly trying to be someone else raises serious questions.

The media has been so pro-Obama for so long we at Peace and Freedom no longer trust and believe half the fawning articles about the President-elect.  We want to see some critical analysis.

Media has an obligation to dissect.  Coronations and saintood should be bestowed upon monarchs and great people long dead.

Barack Obama is a man of great promise, especially as America faces its toughest economic challenges in decades and a myriad of foreign policy choices lurk.

But the media talks less about promise and more about comparisons to Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt.

We say: too soon.  Hold your horses.  Hope for the best but hope is still only a hope; and one step away from a prayer.

FDR was the “Man of the Year” and on the cover of Time magazine.  But he was Chief Executive during the greatest economic tragedy of all time and World War II.

Abraham Lincoln
Greatness was perhaps defined by Abraham Lincoln, who delivered one of the best and shortest orations in American history.  But he also freed the slaves and held the union together….

Obama And The Press: What’s The Future?

Barack Obama 2008 “Person of the Year”

December 17, 2008

Time magazine on Wednesday named US president-elect Barack Obama its 2008 “Person of the Year.”

“For having the confidence to sketch an ambitious future in a gloomy hour, and for showing the competence that makes Americans hopeful he might pull it off, the president-elect is TIME’s Person of the Year,” the newsweekly said.

It said US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson was first runner-up followed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and China’s Zhang Yimou, who directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Time said its “Person of the Year” selection was the “person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”

The magazine last year selected Russian leader Vladimir Putin as its 2007 “Person of the Year.”

In an interview with Time, Obama said that while he may have won a “decisive victory” over Republican John McCain in the November presidential election, “I don’t think that Americans want hubris from their next president.
