Gaza: Hamas Makes Cease-Fire Offer

January 14, 2009

Hamas has made a new cease-fire offer to Egyptian mediaries.  Egypts Foreign Ministry said an agreement was near and a Hamas spokesman said the militant group had “no other choice.”

The Associated Press said, “Israel showed little sign of slowing its bruising 19-day-old offensive against Hamas, striking some 60 targets in the strip bordering southern Israel.”

The U.N.’s Ban Ki-moon is now in Egypt trying to push both Israel and Hamas toward peace.

“It is intolerable that civilians bear the brunt of this conflict,” he said.
